FAQ
HOW IS THE MACHU PICCHU EXPERIENCE DIFFERENT FROM GOING TO MACHU PICCHU BY MYSELF?
The 9-Day Machu Picchu Experience is a transformational retreat that goes beyond your standard Machu Picchu trek. Our adventure is part of a much broader context and experience, before, during, and after the trek. The intention of the Experience is that each individual returns home with a profound sense of accomplishment, a deep connection to Mother Nature, and even greater understanding of self and what they are truly capable of. Jamin, Jen and Jordyn with over 30 years of combined experience in team building and group facilitation, are there to guide and support the collective to get the most from the Experience and leave with stories and friendships to last a lifetime.
WHERE IS THE MACHU PICCHU EXPERIENCE LOCATED?
Machu Picchu is located in the Peruvian Andes in South America. We will be staying in the town of Cusco before and after the trek.
HOW DO I GET TO PERU?
You will fly into Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport (CUZ) in Cusco, Peru. From there, you will organize a short taxi (or Uber) from the airport to our hotel.
WHEN SHOULD I ARRIVE AND DEPART?
The Experience starts on May 27, 2025, at 3:00pm and ends the evening of June 4, 2024 with hotel checkout at 12pm on June 5th, 2025. Your flight can depart anytime on or after June 5th. We ask that you are prompt and present for the entire duration of the Experience and account for transit time to and from the airport. If you choose to arrive early or stay later, you will be responsible for booking your own accommodation outside the retreat dates.
WHAT ROUTE WILL WE BE TAKING?
The 6-day trek along the famous Salkantay Trek and Inca Trail.
WHAT LEVEL OF FITNESS OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED?
While the hike to Machu Picchu involves several hours of hiking every day, it is doable with good general health and fitness and requires no technical skills.
If you have any injuries that might prevent you from being able to hike for several hours each day, send us a message and we can speak through your individual circumstances.
WHAT IS THE ELEVATION / WILL I GET ALTITUDE SICKNESS?
Altitude affects everyone differently and you might experience temporary altitude symptoms when we move towards our maximum altitude of 15,200ft on the Salkantay Pass, yet this should subside as soon as we descend.
WHAT WILL WE EAT?
We have experienced chefs on the trek who will prepare 3 meals each day, plus snacks provided once a day on the trek. We will eat a variety of food and have hot tea, coffee and hot chocolate for each meal.
If you have any specific dietary requirements or food allergies, please let us know upon registration and we will do our best to accommodate.
You are responsible for bringing snacks and additional food that you’d like to have on the trek.
WHAT ABOUT HYGIENE ON THE TREK?
You can expect to “rough it” on the trek. There will be designated toilets at each campsite and you will receive a basin of warm water for washing first thing in the morning and at the end of each day.
WHAT GEAR DO I NEED TO BRING?
We have done the research for you! We will provide you with a detailed packing list to support you in your preparation. You will not need any technical mountain climbing equipment.
WHERE DOES THE DRINKING WATER COME FROM?
Our porters collect water from streams on the trek and boil before use. Your water bladders and bottles will be filled up each night and morning to ensure you have plenty of water throughout the day.
HOW MUCH DO YOU TIP ON MACHU PICCHU?
Tipping guides, cooks, and porters is an important custom and also at your own discretion. The total recommended amount is around US$ 100 per traveller for the 6-day trek.
WHAT IS THE ACCOMMODATION LIKE?
Before and after the trek, we will be staying at a beautiful hotel in downtown Cusco . On the trek, we will provide tents, sleeping pads, and sleeping bags. There will be shared accommodation before, after, and during the trek. If you’d like to share accommodation with a specific participant, let us know after registering and we will accommodate it.

You also receive access to a group communication thread to receive important updates and connect to us and the team in the lead up to the Experience.
LEADING UP TO THE EXPERIENCE

ARRIVAL & MEETING YOUR TEAM
PREPARING FOR THE TREK
We spend the first day and a half of The Experience in Cusco town. We will have a trek briefing and ensure everyone has everything they need for a successful trek, plus have an opportunity to buy last minute snacks and other necessities. There will be time to explore the town of Cusco and enjoy some of the local cafes, shops, and restaurants.
MACHU PICCHU TREK
On the third day of our Retreat, we will begin our 6-day trek to Machu Picchu via the Salkantay Trek and Inca Trail. Our route combines the best of these two world-famous trails, guided by ethical guiding company ENIGMA. On our way, we will cross high mountain passes and visit ancient sites while you get to connect deeply with your team mates as we edge closer to the Sun Gate of Machu Picchu.
On our final day of the trek, we spend time fully soaking in and exploring Machu Picchu with a private tour. Then, we will make our way back to our hotel in Cusco.
CELEBRATING THE JOURNEY
The remainder of the Experience includes space for recovery, reflection and storytelling, and celebration. We facilitate activities to support the consolidation of life lessons from the journey to Machu Picchu and create opportunities to acknowledge and thank individuals who made the Experience truly remarkable. Our final evening is intentionally spent in celebration of our time together.
